Event Related

How old do you have to be to attend shows at the Jefferson Theater?

Unless otherwise posted the Jefferson is all ages. We do suggest a guardian accompany any patrons under the age of 14.

Do I need ID to enter the venue?

In most cases, an ID is only required if you plan on drinking alcohol. Because we are an all-ages venue we take checking ID’s very seriously. In compliance with Virginia laws anyone 21 and older who plans on drinking alcohol will have to show a valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID, no matter how old you think you may look. Anyone without proper ID, regardless of age, will be treated as under 21 and not allowed to buy, hold or drink alcohol. This policy is strictly enforced and any violation will result in immediate ejection from the venue. If a show is 18+ every patron will need to show identification. 18+ shows will be listed on our website, social media, & venue entrances. We reserve the right to refuse entry for any patron, at any time for any reason.

Does the Jefferson Theater have seats?

Unless a show is advertised as seated, which is rare, our shows are general admission and standing room only on the Main Auditorium Floor. We do have two balconies that are seated that offer great views. Patrons with special needs should call 434.245.4980 in advance to make arrangements.

Is The Jefferson ADA Accessible?

The Jefferson Theater offers accessible accommodations to patrons with ADA requirements. Our main auditorium and bathrooms are all fully accessible. The majority of our events are general admission therefore, there is not specific ADA ticketing options.

We are located on the pedestrian Downtown Mall. Patrons requiring the most convenient access to the theater should be dropped off at the corner of First Street and Water Street.

If you have special requests, simply ask our staff once you arrive or call us at 434.245.4980 and we will be glad to assist you.

What time does the band go on?

The time listed on your ticket and on the website is the door time, not the show time. Normally, the first set will begin one hour after door times. Set times vary and typically are not announced until the day of the show. Please keep in mind that set times, as well as opening acts, are always subject to change without notice.

Things that are NOT allowed in the Jefferson:

Personal items such as pocket knives, pepper spray, flasks, outside food and drinks or anything that could be considered dangerous or contraband will not be allowed in the building. Purses and bags may be searched prior to entry.

Does the venue allow for re-entry? What about smoking?

In most cases, the Jefferson does allow re-entry. Either your wristband, ticket stub, or hand stamp will be required for re-entry. The Jefferson does not allow any smoking at all in our historic building. However with re-entry you can smoke outside.

What are your policies regarding photo/video/audio?

Recording policies are at the bands discretion and change night to night. Professional Cameras with a removable lens are not permitted without an approved photo pass obtained from artist management and flash photography is never permitted. Per event, the Photo Policy will be posted on our front door stating what is permitted.

How do I get a photo pass or schedule an interview with the band?

Requests for media credentials should be handled through the artists’ management company directly.

Alcohol

The Jefferson has 2 full service bars offering a wide selection of beer, spirits, wine, sodas and water at every show. You must be 21+ years of age and bring valid photo ID to enjoy. We encourage our patrons that choose to consume alcohol to do so responsibly and plan for a safe ride home. All local, state, and federal laws are strictly enforced. Anyone violating any laws, including: public intoxication, using illegal drugs, or underage drinking, will be ejected immediately with no appeal and no refund. Similarly, anyone caught providing alcohol to a minor will be ejected with no appeal/refund along with the minor in question. The Jefferson reserves the right to refuse service to anyone that appears overly intoxicated.

How do I become a member of the Jefferson Theater Street Team?

Location & Parking

Are you near the Charlottesville Transit Service (CTS)?

Yes, the Downtown Mall is a major destination for the Bus Service including the “Free Trolley” service. Keep in mind that the busses run till 11:45. For more information, click here.

I’m driving, how do I get to the Jefferson Theater?

The easiest way is to use Google maps or Mapquest and enter our address of 110 East Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902. This will get you close but we are on a pedestrian only mall so you will need to park close by and finish your trek on foot. In any case, once you get to downtown Charlottesville, the pedestrian mall has plenty of signs to direct you to us and other attractions.

What about parking?

Where should we park? The Jefferson is located right in Downtown Charlottesville and we do not have any on site parking. We strongly recommend that our patrons park in the Water Street Parking Garage (100 and 200 blocks of East Water Street) which is a very short walk to the theater. Always be aware of the time that the garage closes though. If you tally around after the show, you may find your car is locked up.
